Katie Fallon presents: Vulture: The Private Life of an Unloved Bird

June 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch at Grand Army Plaza

Vultures are often overlooked, underappreciated, and unloved, despite the vital role they play healthy ecosystems. Worldwide, vultures are more likely to be threatened or endangered than any other group of raptor, but in the United States Turkey and Black Vultures may be increasing in number. Based on Katie Fallon's new book, this presentation will discuss the life and times of the noble Turkey Vulture, including its feeding, nesting, and roosting habits, migratory behaviors, and common misconceptions.

Katie Fallon lives in West Virginia and is co-founder of the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the region's wild birds through research, education, and rehabilitation.

FYI

The concern here for birders is the impact of an ALL GLASS Building as has been the trend in new high rises.

I ran out to the Neathermead, but by the time I got there, it had traveled out of sight. Huge raptor being mobbed by something small and angry. Young, dark bird with limited, blotchy white in wings. Wings were long and straight, with long fingers. "

Prospect swans mystery

In case anyone asks me eventually,I'm going to cite it here now. As for answers, I don't know. (yet)

Prospect Lake's Mute Swans have disappeared. Sometime over the weekend, the resident 7 swans went poof, last seen last Friday.

As to where they went, I have not the slightest idea after getting a report today of their absence. I'm sure something will come about from the media end as these birds are beloved by the community.
