Mourning at Tunnel Arch closed stairs

Mourning Warbler (Geothlypis philadelphia) (1)
- Reported Jun 02, 2026 07:11 by Forrest Wickman
- Prospect Park, Kings, New York
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=40.6602841,-73.9689534&ll=40.6602841,-73.9689534
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S351334983
- Comments: "Flagged for rare/date, though this is right around the time of year I’ve had them most often before, so I don’t want to say “late.” Singing in the dense undergrowth just south of the broken-down steps in the east end of the Midwood across from the zoo, though not singing one of the more obvious, rising, “churr-EEE, chur-EEE, chur-EEE, choo-choo” songs that are better known. I don’t know regiolects, but this was much more like the penultimate, Nova Scotia song in Merlin. It roamed the area singing every few minutes or so, only briefly chipping, and popped out very occasionally for brief looks and, once, photos. Audio also available."

- Comments: "*continuing at Sylvan water, seen at almost every part of the yew tunnel area - warbler with an olive back, bright yellow underparts to vent, and a rich blue-gray hood bolstered by a crescent-shaped bib. Nice views and almost got a great photo up close but someone jumped right in front of me at the last second, leaving me with a nice blurry hat photo. Lesson learned: don’t call out the bird, just look at it quietly. Doc photos"
