Prospect Sept 1st early COWA + warbler quality

A very --at least a week --early CONNECTICUT WARBLER (COWA) appeared in Prospect, a female immature  in the Peninsula, in a triangular brushy habitat before the "thumb" around 830 am. First seen by Tom Preston and Matthew Rymkiewizc, it was quite cooperative for them, walking the woods trail openly.  Then after , throughout the day, the COWA got more skittish --flying away upon human approach to another section--, even though a number of birders saw glimpses and decent looks in the underbrush. I was only able to catch its tail and undercovert ( I guess I should count it then ;)  ) as it walked under the fallen timber after I went back from a 1230 email from Chaoyan Dong who saw the rare bird with Queens County Birders Dennis Miller nd Jeff Ritter. Several birders were delighted with the post report in the late afternoon seeing COWA.  A southweast wind may keep this bird on turf, and likley some success Sunday morning. Its a maybe worth checking.

Look for the trash can  for the general area , along the woods trail along the lakeside. Both the woods left and right were COWA turf.

This Connecticut greatly overshadowed a MOURNING WARBLER reported by Matthew at the east side of Terrace Bridge  seen earlier than COWA, in the breeze Hill section at 7am. And add to this rare warbler, HOODED WARBLER, a female in the Vale Cashmere reported by Rafael where he also saw , along with Rob Bate a perched BROADWINGED HAWK in the Vale.OLIVE -SIDED FLYCATCHER reported by Ed Crowne's BBC walk , over the Lookout Hill "switchback" trail , same as yesterday's report. YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO also made a quality list, seen by Ann Murray and Bobbi Manian along the Center Drive  between the Cemetery main gate and Lookout Hill's west slope.

A good day for warblers, my unaware of it a northwest wind day due to a busy Friday for me.

Another exceptional day (morning!!) in Prospect Park.  I tallied 15 sps of warblers (missed Connecticut, Nashville, Blue-winged).  Two sps of Empidonax flycatchers: Yellow-bellied & Least.
