HERMIT THRUSHes filled the park this morning, obviously a surge overnight that also bought in many sparrows. Among the rare sparrows, VESPER and CLAY-COLORED were reported by Rob Bate. The VESPER became two prior to my lunch hour, seen by Adam Welz in the Sparrowbowl site, off to the edges though. CLAY-COLORED is at Breeze Hill, just up from the feeder site ( no feeders up yet), according to Rob Bate.
Some late warblers also in town, namely BLACK-THROATED GREEN ( Elyse, at Rustic Arbor); BLACK-THROATED BLUEs, NORTHERN PARULA and MAGNOLIA which are detailed below.
Also of note 5 PURPLE FINCHES at Sparrowbowl ( RBate) and elsewhere. A MERLIN perched in a snag next to Lower Pool ( HClevens)
Over at the garden, a BALTIMORE ORIOLE is a late bird though this species is known for late fall overstays, sometimes making it to the Xmas counts in these parts.
Pending more reports later, this is the word at 1pm.
