Afternoon birds in Prospect's Peninsula & Greenwood's "hawkwatch"

I took a late trip to Prospect just past noon. Most of my time was spent in the Peninsula where its been good the past late week. In a duration of 2 birding hours, even without numbers, I tallied 11 species warblers.

Before my report, the best bird today at 9:28 am was Keir Randall's MOURNING WARBLER. A female adult, it was by the Binnen Bridge, somewhere  in brush if one  heads towards the back closed overlook platform

Most of the Peninsula actions centered at the central trails intersection and the tip. In the former, a late LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH with its bright white wide supercilium; PRAIRIE, BLACKBURNIAN (pretty high), YELLOW had that part; at the tip, the best was a CAPE MAY WARBLER joining two BLACKPOLL WARBLERS. Steve  Nanz much earlier in the morning had the CAPE MAY.These birds hung around the tall pines, in the lower branches.A late bird  of note was EASTERN KINGBIRD , just to the left of the shelter.

Along the trail views of the south Lullwater included a GREEN HERON perched by the cattails, a BELTED KINGFISHER hightailing it to the other side. Guess it was flustered at me. Of note at the Lake, NORTHERN SHOVELERS have now gone up to 14 birds.(It'll be in the 100's come December)

The rest of the sunny day , up to Butterfly Meadow was very quiet.

Meanwhile over at Greenwood Cemetery. Rob Jett held a personal hawk watch; most of the time its at the Kiamie Crypt , near the Civil war Monument in the northwest corner. Rob reported several BROAD-WINGED HAWK flyovers

Later , a tweet text from Keir Randall, not sure if seen at this hawk site, a juvenile BALD EAGLE flew over, heading west.

Northwest winds tonight. Birding should be productive tomorrow.
