Prospect's 1st 2013 Connecticut warbler

The first  CONNECTICUT WARBLER of the season appeared this morning in the southwest section of
Lookout Hill .The area was quite active with birds, particularly behind the newly opened area  behind the fence at the Lamppost #249 picnic tables ( well drive) and the mulch narrow trail farther up to the left  in the woods. ( look for the short step stairs, to the left is the mulch trail that continues through the middle slope of the southwestern Lookout Hill Slope)

After viewing the REDSTART  and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT parade in those areas, I proceed to cut some invasive vines at the mulch trail. COMMON YELLOWTHROATS were hopping on this popular joggers trail, landing and flying into the dense shrubbery. At where the weld wire fence was down , a largish warbler appeared on the Mulberry sapling above this downed fence. It hopped down to the trail and proceeded walking along it. To my surprise and great delight, I was treated to a CONNECTICUT WARBLER ! A female adult, it continued its pace up the trail , miraculously nobody appeared to spook the bird for a good 7 minutes ( why 7 ? internal clock is ticking), no joggers, no dog walkers , nobody came through as i enjoyed this autumn warbler prize.

Throughout the park in several renown locations, AMERICAN REDSTART rules the day. A close second were COMMON YELLOWTHROATS in the weedier areas.Ricks Place had at least 9 Redstarts on the bridle trail, sharing the strip with 4 OVENBIRDs, 2 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHEs,and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER just above, among others.

I knew the morning was going to be good when my home park entrance at Greenwood Ave had a female TENNESSEE WARBLER in the pokeweed at the fence, also holding several , yes Common Yellowthroats ( hence the name, "common today")

Other reports for interest was a possible Dickcissel in Greenwood Cemetery's Sylvan Waters ( obs by Will) , WORM-EATING WARBLER just west of the Esdale Bridge ( observer: Noam ).PINE and PRAIRIE WARBLERs at Arleen's Pines  ( Dennis Hrehowsik, Mike Yuan, Keir Randall)
