Reports came to me of WILSONS SNIPE (MikeY) at GWC's Crescent water, then RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (MikeY,)at the Zephyr path in the southern section, this path located near the junction of Cypress and Grape avenues. Mike Yuan saw this bird. I went later in the day to look but didn't see that bird. However, winter's loyal resident RHWoodpecker at Battle Hill area was spotted so I went home quite satisfied. The Battle Ave/Arbor Ave bird I saw, favors a dead Sycamore tree next to the grayish Silliman Grave; this bird was pulling out grub from the dead wood.
As Greenwood offered about that much in the quiet lull, Prospect came thru with good birds. LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH by the Terrace Bridge with PINE and PALM WARBLERS also present. 5 other woodpeckers were seen as reported by Joshua; so 6 species seen in both areas today. Throw in RUSTY BLACKBIRD , BLACK VULTURE and the continuing impressive sight of the 3 RED-NECKED GREBEs in Prospect Lake for good birding.
Yep, Good birding today as the air warms up..(about time)
from Joshua Malbin
Great early spring day. 5 woodpeckers, both vultures, 4 sp warblers inc LoWa, creepers, savannah sparrow, both kinglets. Plus the red-necked grebes, one of which was calling, and ring-necked ducks.
