Hi Peter-
What started out as a slow morning with Dennis Hrehowsik turned out to be a great flycatcher day.
Didn't see the "Do Not Enter Sign" MOURNING WARBLER, but probably had one in the middle of Butterfly Meadow. Only had two brief looks as it flew to cover, but got a good impression of a bulkier and sleeker warbler with a dark blue hood, brown back, and yellow underparts. Jim Muchmore alerted us to a hatchout occurring at the end of wood chip trail that ends at the top MD monument stairs. Got great close looks at a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER with Donna Evans. and Jim M. Further down the MD Monument stairs, we saw two empids having a spat. The WILLOW FLYCATCHER, seen earlier by others at the top of the hill, called its "whit" call several times, and after a few minutes watching the other feed on the slope, it gave a ripping "rheeeap" that IDed it as an ALDER FLYCATCHER. We left it after waiting for it to vocalize again.
At the Steaming Pile (of mulch) work area by the Zoo, Dennis, Kristen and I saw another flycatcher spat which turned out to be an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and another YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER.
On the way to the Vale, we were pleased to find a singing GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH.
