In Green-Wood Cemetery this afternoon, I spotted a Merlin stirring up the Monk Parakeets near the Chapel. Either this one or another later chased a male Kestrel over Sylvan Water. The Merlin was then harassed from pine to snag and back again by several Blue Jays.
I was observing a Great Blue Heron by then; this was definitely not the same bird as the GBH at the Crescent Water, which was able to fly but seemed to have a bum left foot. The Kestrel meanwhile sprang upon what was probably one of the very few dragonflies flying today.
Soon after I got home, I saw a Peregrine on the cross of St. Michael's RC Church at 4th and 41st in Sunset Park, a reliable neighborhood Peregrine perch.
All in all, a pretty good day for the genus Falco in Brooklyn.
