I don't know the impact upon birds during poor air quality and smoky conditions, but some late migrating birds are still coming through. Stragglers and floaters - unnattached, unmated males mostly, are being seen around our local parks.
Topping the highlights the last two days goes to Greenwood Cemetery. Reported yesterday by Dellwater, Acadian and Olive-sided Flycatchers, & Mourning warbler are quality birds.
In Prospect Park late waeblers seen were magnolia, ovenbird, Blackburnian. Other notables for tardiness were Summer Tanager at north Vale Cashmere,Swainsons thrush, Ruby crowned kinglet,Northern Rough winged swallow and likely breeding Acadian flycatcher.
Both parks saw a Broadwinged hawk overhead yesterday.
Smaller parks even benefited from late birds. Brooklyn bridge park boasted Red breasted nuthatch,Veery, white throated Sparrow, ovenbird and Northern Parula warbler; McCarren Park in Greenpoint also reported Northern Parula and Blackpoll warblers, the latter also seen in Prospect Park.
Stay safe out there!! 😷
