Teals and waterthrush in the pools

April is starting to cook up and it's a great time for birding. I rarely nowadays get into Prospect on Saturdays but today was an opportunity to find a pine warbler or even the waterthrush. Instead ,other good stuff was greatly appreciated.

First off, you got to love a breeding plumaged Common Loon. Quite close to Prospect lake west shore, the loon is remarkably striking. Just above me , an Osprey perched, scanning the water for an unlucky fish.

After dead spots along Lullwater and Lily Pool-- no Pine warbler that is, luck turned for me at Lower Pool. Maureen mentioned seeing the Louisiana Waterthrush at the Lower Pool back gate. Another birder stopped by and with his spotting the waterthrush appeared. Strutting the Mudflat this beautiful Louisiana made my day except even better Blue winged Teals.

I was told 5 teals came in ,using both pools. Before I saw the waterthrush, I took a quick look over at Upper Pool and right away, I saw a drake Blue-winged: such a great looking duck. Getting back to Lower Pool, while conversing with the birder, we saw a pair gliding across.Again, a close look made several birders also photographers happy. On my way out, I saw a pair of drakes gliding across upper pool.
4 for me , 5 likely a great number for this rare species in Prospect.
