What the rain bought in..

Today's biggest surprise popped up on Prospect Lake's Duck Island with a long awaited Boat- tailed Grackle. I can't remember the last time the park had this species but I'll look into it. Besides that great find there's been a few other uncommon good birds near water.

Birders near Duck islands initially heard an unusual call and surmised it to be a Boat tailed Grackle. In time the bird was spotted. Peter Paul's checklist I posted earlier shows a photo. This is a terrific park find for primarily salt coastal bird.

Also near water a Greater Yellow legs was found mid-afternoon at the lake western shore " begging beach" as well as 3 Black crowned Night herons in the Lull water in the morning.

Meanwhile a Bald eagle flew over the upper pool but the Orange crowned Warbler at the Vale Cashmere need not worry becoming prey.

On a side note, the Glaucous Gull of Bush terminal Pier park made it easy for birders as it was seen from their car, in the parking lot

Soggy rain birding has its rewards.
