New York Restoration Project has launched the 1,000 Chestnut Challenge in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance, New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, The American Chestnut Foundation and American chestnut conservationist and longtime Prospect Park Alliance volunteer Bart Chezar. 🌳 🌰 The challenge is a historic effort to revive the native American chestnut by distributing saplings throughout all five boroughs and establishing 1,000 thriving American chestnut trees throughout our city's urban tree canopy. In the coming year, Prospect Park Alliance will be planting 100 American chestnut trees in the park as part of this challenge. These trees will join the 80 American chestnut trees currently growing in Brooklyn's Backyard thanks to Chezar's ongoing work with Prospect Park Alliance to revive the species in Prospect Park.
