A passing today, one of our own popular birders Kathy Willens

I regret to inform the birding community that Kathy Willens passed away this morning after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Kathy was an energetic enthusiastic birder who attended almost every prospect Saturday walk and was a charming friend to many. Occasionally, she would bump into me just chilling to bird as we were Windsor terrace neighbors.

She was a renown sports photojournalist who photographed quite a few famous sport pictures

Rest in peace Kathy,we'll miss you.

Black-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus erythropthalmus) (1)
- Reported Jul 13, 2024 07:21 by Nate L-S
- Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=40.6523083,-73.9904281&ll=40.6523083,-73.9904281
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S186770953
- Comments: "Presumably the same bird that's been seen recently. In the black willow at the east end of Dell Water, perched most of the time, but occasionally making short hops and flying to nearby branches. Differentiated from a young YBCU since there were no visible spots on the undertail as well as a seemingly petite bill. Poor digi-binned photos to be attached."

Black-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus erythropthalmus) (1)
- Reported Jul 12, 2024 14:01 by KZ F

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S186656774
- Media: 2 Photos, 1 Audio
- Comments: "*Continuing at Dell Water, took a while to locate but eventually found it moving through the big willow, gleaning insects. Lost it while re-angling but was able to track it for a while by its occasional low staccato vocalizations, and saw it fly west into the next large tree, where I watched it creep around sluggishly foraging on berries for over a half an hour. As it ascended into the treetops, I stayed with it by going up the path on the north side of Dell and looking straight out into the tree crown. It was at times dead still in the top of the tree for minutes on end. Cuckoo with a black bill, fairly blank face with a dark eye and pale eye ring, bright white underparts, unspotted soft-brown undertail, and rufous wing coverts. Vis lifer, following several heard-onlys."
