Tonight's BBC nighthawk watch

The annual event despite the favorable northwest wind didn't produce the high count of nighthawks but the party of birders didn't mind.Its always a crapshoot but tonight did get us several nighthawks.

It wasn't until 710 pm for the first nighthawk to appear and it was a fast direct flyer.Over the Nethermead spotted coming fast and straight through along the lull water,most birders saw it while others missed it. It was the second bird I spotted that offered a little more time flying the same route as the first . Then the third bird appeared behind the group heading northwest .Overall I was told 5 nighthawks were tallied.. Oh well,it's better than none!

In other news. ,earlier today a wonderful migration of Cedar Waxwings commenced: over a 100 in Greenwood Cemetery and a sizable flock at prospects hammerhead section .It's a gorgeous bird, one of my faves .

Warblers were more prominent at Greenwood Cemetery, 14 species in all reported by Joe T as well as a Yellow billed Cuckoo.

Most interesting is that the Lefrak splashpad has become a peep show with two Semipalmated sandpipers and a few Least sandpipers.

Just up the lull water from the splash pad, a non breeding Blue winged Teal has been hanging out near the Pink Beach .

It should still be good birding tomorrow.I'm hoping so after my busy work week.
