Peter, Connecticut Warbler, at 18:30, by fallen tree, on relatively open forest floor, approximately 10-15 feet on the right side of the fallen tree. The bird was walking and never hopped. I had very good views of the bird for what seemed a couple of minutes as it ground gleaned. Some observations:
- The eye ring was prominent and grayish white; but I cannot claim the eye ring was complete, because the bird's head was almost constantly in motion and sometimes obscured by foliage and tree/sapling trunks.
- The bird had the same kind of body proportions and drab color tonalities and contrasts as the bird that we saw earlier in the afternoon and that you and Sean identified (ie, the COWA Sean potographed). Some unexpected characteristics: I had a very good view of the bird facing me: its breast band was gray (lighter in tone than I expected to see) and was clearly and sharply delineated on its lower boundry (as expected). Unexpected: there was a clear contrast with the upper boundry of the gray breast band and the extended throat, which was a dingy yellowish gray.
I offer these obsevations for the benefit of other birders, who like me, have not IDed a COWA previously. . Jim
