Sunset Park BBC tour Feb 21

During a Brooklyn Bird Club tour I led thru Greenwood Cemetery, Sunset
Park, Bush Terminal Pier Park and Veterans Pier,it was our third stop
that produced well. Bush Terminal continues to solidify its winter
birding reputation in its first ever winter.

After the usual winter birds at Greenwood Cemetery, an uncommon Sharp
shinned Hawk flyover in Sunset Park, we hit some jackpots at Bush
Terminal. First , a WHITE WINGED SCOTER seen at the first cove was
thought our best sighting. Then from a seperate vantage , Dennis
Hrehowsik tweeted me he had the GLAUCOUS GULL immature sitting on the
ice floes by the concrete pier end. We had a good glimpses before it
took off. Right after we spotted COMMON GOLDENEYE hen , and when Dennis
joined us, he found the continuing drake EURASIAN WIGEON gliding out of
the south cove. When we arrived over there, the GLAUCOUS GULL was on
the water very close to our group on the second concrete walkway. An
awesome find and on top of that 13 species ducks and AMERICAN KESTREL
to symbolize the winter atmosphere as snow began falling.

Last spot at Veterans pier saw many Greater Scaup and 4 PURPLE
SANDPIPER along the break wall at the base of the pier.
