Favorable Wind
Tonight the wind shifts northerly, from north to northwest thru the night.
Usually this wind direction triggers bird migration and so one would expect tomorrow thru Thursday to be productive.
Good luck n good boiding !

Peter,
A dozen or so birders met at the Pergola and birded the south side of the park. Highlights were a cooperative black Billed Cuckoo spotted by Ben Garron-Caine, a male cape may Warbler spotted by Tim Graves, 14 Warbler species and 57 species total. It was also nice running into Tom's Audubon group on wellhouse and Cyrus' noon group along the lullwater with Michele Dreger sighting. There were something like 50-60 birders and half a dozen BBC Trip leaders on walks in the park today.
Looking forward to the next cold front.
Best,
Dennis

Hi Peter,
Well, last week was very quiet. This week....quieter...!! At least until we got towards the south of the park and then things picked up a bit. It was raining a little at the start but turned out to be a very pleasant day.
We had 41 species including 10 species of warblers. And there were some good highlights.
Top picks: Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Blackpoll Warbler; very cooperative, busy Hairy Woodpecker; House Sparrow with white wing patches (for a while we thought this might be the bird-of-the-day), Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
And
A very interesting hybrid warbler. It most closely resembled Sutton's, with several Northern Parula qualities, but also strong white supercilium and a dark bill.
It had very strong white wingbars, all white below except for yellow in the throat region only. Under-eye arc but strong white supercilum. It didn't have any of the black in cheek and throat of yellow-throated, however.....It was fairly high in an oak near the ganga gang on the south side. No chance for photos, unfortunately.
Hope someone else finds it!
Here's the list.
Best regards,
Tom

Hi Peter,
Yesterday was a great birding day! Cape May, Blue-winged, Bay-breasted and on and on. I got some great photos of all the birds I encountered. Thanks for the alert on the Nighthawks. I was watching for them for awhile and they were there not once but twice! Flying by in groups. Even the Solitude Sandpiper decided to show up!

Hey Peter,

Thanks again for the notice sometime back about Nighthawks. I was looking for them in the evening. On a dark rainy day, they threw pass in two groups. One group, I saw around 3 something, the other went by around 4. I was taking photos of warblers. The last second, I have to change over from warblers setting to flying birds. I was lucky to get a shot off. The fast or no photos!

Hi Peter,
Yesterday was a great day for fall birds migration. The nighthawks threw by in different times. The copper's hawks made an appearance. There were a great variety of warblers and other birds! There were Pairies, Black-throated Green, Bay-breasted and many more. I have to study my photos to see which flycatcher I have seen.
See you around,
Charles

Good morning Peter. As I enter THE PP from PPsw and 10th Ave. There were at least 10 warblers chipping from the 2 nd trees left of entrance. The Redstart and B&W came down. The rest stayed up on the tree top. Because of the rain and backlight, I cannot see which warblers they were.

A great start to the season. A dozen birders saw 61 species including 14 warblers on a cool sept morning. Highlights were worm eating Warbler, Blackburnian, prairie and red breasted nuthatch. A real team effort. We spent almost four hours on the south side of the lake today where we found the heaviest activity.
