Subject: Kings County Black-headed Gull + Date: Sun Feb 7 2016 21:19 pm From: sean AT seansime.com | |
I spent two hours gulling in Prospect Park this afternoon. The first-winter Black-headed Gull showed itself at 2:15pm. Given Rob Bate's recent discovery of an adult BHGU recently at Bush Terminal and the first-winter BHGU coming in to the evening roost at Brooklyn Bridge Park we can safely say there are at least two currently in Brooklyn. This afternoon's bird lifted off soaring high and drifting SE at 2:47. There is still a tremendous amount we don't know about the daily movement of gulls in the NYC area. Other good species for the date and location viewed from the lakeshore included a beautiful female Canvasback, a lone Turkey Vulture soaring west over Lookout Hill and a female American Wigeon.
