- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S299595949
- Comments: "Female, swimming between Pier 5 and 6. Noticeably larger than the Black Ducks and Scaups. Long sloping head and beak, medium brown on the head and chest. Light brown and white mottled on the body. About a dozen other ducks in the waters at this time. Distant phone pic taken. Tried unsuccessfully to get a tape of its loud intermittent quacking. When I returned from checking out the Pier 6 waters, most of the ducks including the Canvasback were gone."
"It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it."
