I was asked about whether Gateway park , specifically Floyd Bennett Field was open. According to Gateway's website and Facebook page, none of the units are open due to Superstorm Sandy' impact. ( I can imgaine the terrible damage at Fort Tilden , losing all its dunes) Here's the Facebook note
Gateway National Recreation Area
Gateway National Recreation Area remains closed to visitors. Many areas are still without power. Some sites are being used as distribution sites for food, water and clothing (Miller Field), FEMA staging area and Emergency Response services (Floyd Bennett Field) and cleanup efforts (Jacob Riis Park parking lot). Together we're working to provide support for relief efforts to the local communities. Thanks for your understanding and support of our park. (scm).
