Despite chilly overcast skies, and very slow birding, my Brooklyn Bird Club scored big with a prize rarity near the end of my walk with a female CHUCK WILLS WIDOW that flew over us.I called out the flying bird out as nightjar (actually loudly "GOATSUCKER") ,this large bird getting our immediate attention and pursuit finding it again.
Thanks to Mary Eyster relocating the night jar sitting on a stone grave border, it was seen well by over 25 members for at least five minutes before the bird was attacked by a harassing RED TAILED HAWK. It flew away towards FIR Avenue from Sassafras Ave in the southernwestern section of the cemetery.
Also thanks to our photographers, especially here this post today (previous page) Rafael Campos and his valuable expertise with his quick list and pics for viewing on my blog.More later as I get the others photos.
Tiring day after a birding intense weekend and leading two BBC walks .I will post Prospect Park's brief soon
A really fun day that required lots of patience yet rewarded well and happy birders ....and for me ,after 39 years birding, this is my first time lifer Chucks....
