Squeezed between the storms , with the ominous big one down south, a north wind overnight bought in some migrants.Notably Brooklyn Bridge Park impressed with a condensed drop-in of birds in its small pier one locale and Prospect showing some fruit as well, with a trickle of sparrows and buntings ,as well as the persistent HOODED WARBLER in the Upper Pool section.
Heather Wolf reported from her "patch of woods" Brooklyn bridge Park a nice fallout of birds , mostly good numbers of PALM WARBLERS reaching 30, and BLACKPOLL hitting the ten number, with 8 species warblers; given a small park with yet matured woods, an impressive morning there. The park should do well in October for sparrows. Heather' s list is in a previous post here.
Meanwhile in Prospect, the Upper Pool mainland sees much of interesting birds, with Butterfly Meadow following suit. First the HOODED WARBLER, the one from the Terrace Bridge of the past week moved westward. Actually seen late afternoon yesterday that I forgot to report, the Wildflower grass meadow whence it came from was also active with CHIPPING SPARROWS ( about 8) with 4 at least INDIGO BUNTINGS,all immatures or females. The female or a immature HOODED was reported along the back path by Mike Yuan.
Butterfly Meadow had action mainly with Warblers. While birding briefly with Karen Ohearn, we spotted two PINE WARBLERS,one a first year bird, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, SCARLET TANAGER; WHITE THROATED SPARROWS are in, hiding among the meadow' s dense flower beds. I will post my list later.
Tom Stephenson led his usual Thursday walk. His report has been received and appears above.
