Observation today was that it was more birdier than yesterday with scattered good birds to report . Not everyday is going to be great but you take it as it comes.
Most likely the best bird was a male Blue Grosbeak at Greenwood Cemetery South of the intersection of Lawn and Landscape Avenues. An adult bird always gets your attention!
In GWC Dell water , a Yellow Billed cuckoo is a great find.
In Prospect , nothing spectacular but a few quality birds worth looking for. A Cerulean warbler singing high up was hard to find in the now dense canopy. It can be frustrating finding small warblers- tell me about it.
At Prospect Lake , 3 Bank Swallows mean a good number while on Lower Pool a pair of Blue winged Teal is fine as well .Most odd: a very palish Barn swallow perhaps leucistic or maybe something new flying over the lake.
There a been a variety of songbirds now throughout the park, especially birds battling out their breeding territory. This was the case when Chris M now leading Tom's group in early afternoon spotted a pair of Great Crested Flycatchers chasing each other at Center Drive .
A last notable mention is the White Crowned Sparrow at my old youth park Fort Greene Park, the sparrow hanging out by the maintenance shed .
Get out birding when you can as May winds down quickly!
"There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the folded bud ready for spring." — Rachel Carson
