It's quite unusual for me to write two personal reports in one day! ( Well it's my off day so there no work exhaustion 🥱🤗). But after seeing the Least Bittern, I had to at least write about my experience
So today I had a regular doctor's appointment in mid town Manhattan . I purposely selected 2 pm for my appointment so that I could squeeze it with anchoring birding walks: greenwood this morning and prospect in the afternoon . I figured getting the least bittern was feasible coming from 7th Ave train stop. Of course I stopped at Smileys pizza 🍕 and after seeing the bittern, I was all smiles . So today, ironically,a Michael got me my spark bird in the morning; this afternoon, a second Michael got me the hidden bittern of Upper Pool .
But before that chance meeting, I was looking for the bittern from the dog beach with a new birder Dena which for her would be a life bird . We eventually parted but I recalled she said she was on Discord .
Long story short ,I started walking up Falkill Falls path and saw long time acquaintance Michael who was pointing at branches at the water edge next to the gated boat ramp .It took me about 30 seconds to see what and where our new star the bittern. With such open views and cooperation, this least bittern for nearly a full week has delighted so many birders, for many a life bird . You are not going see better looks of this usually reclusive species . She's a looker,a glamorous star ⭐ born for our benefit.
And even better Dena got the Least Bittern on her return ( after I went back looking for her but missed) , thanks for my discord post and my good hearing .😄
