A pass by of the closed off construction area at ballfield #1 at the western end of the Long meadow found for me a lone KILLDEER huddling inside a tire rut in the middle of the field. Then later , as I went to the Parade Ground along Parkside Avenue, the locked ball fields were laden with many grackles that attracted my attention initially but instead got me a high number of KILLDEER at field # 2. The hunkered down flock of 13 birds at "first base" was way too many to occupy that base. ;) . Behind a flock of 200 Canada geese, this KILLDEER flock could be a high concentrated number for the park in a good number of years. Unfortunately I cannot check the records due to software issues.
The duck bonanza continues regarding diversity with 9 species. Among the best species, 8 WOOD DUCK at Upper Pool island; 3 male RING NECK DUCK at Three Sisters Island and the continuing merganser trio of COMMON , RED-BREASTED and HOODED.
RUSTY BLACKBIRD and EASTERN TOWHEE were seen along the Binnen Creek below the Three Arches Nethermead Bridge, good birds to see now. There is a Rusty Blackbird blitz survey in progress on Cornell's Ebirds that is important for citizen science participation.
For the time being, focus on those closed off fence areas, be it permanent or temporary . In any case, those spots could be rewarded with dedicated observation.
