I wanted to catch up with my warblers or should I say cheat a little. With little time and crappy luck with warblers this spring, I sort out the newest hot spring at Prospects picnic house .
Water gushing forth from the broken pipe that feeds the water fountain has instead benefited migratory birds. As it runs downslope into the depression or glacial pothole ( or some may say a kettle) , the woods around the water oasis is filled with hidden birds-- until they come to the trickling water. ( A reminder not to mention this to parks 🤗😉)
.
I stopped by there since the spot is only 150 feet from my office. Finally glad to get off work at 4 , I ran into a couple of birders. One of them Chris Miller when I asked " how's the birding" he said pretty good for the last two hours he saw 15 warbler species and a Summer Tanager at the water edge. Dang ! they would have sped up my warbler list for this spring. Nevertheless I took up my post to spend at least 30 minutes .
For within the time I spent there, here is what I saw bathing : Black poll warblers of both sexes, 5 cedar waxwings, Northern Waterthrush, Swainson's Thrush, and a beautiful Northern Oriole. Away from the water : a Magnolia warbler, Common Yellow throat, Catbird and right in front of us mere feet away from our fence watch was my spark bird Scarlet Tanager in full display..
You can't beat that!
