During our rounds picking up mulberry cuttings near GAP entrance, a surprise from behind the eagle monument, or more particularly named Dongan Oak .
As our truck rolled in off the east drive, I suddenly saw a grayish shape fly upward above the road to perch on a stump farther up that road. We slowly travel getting closer until I saw our special visitor: an adult SHARP-SHINNED HAWK. It stayed there even as we were opposite the bird and then when it spotted us, took off up Battle Hill. Wintertime is prime time for these adult accipiters and likely --hopefully this bird will stick around for awhile...
