Williamsburg Woodcock this morning as door guardian

From Chris Las

 Hi Peter,

I hope you and your family are well.

On my morning walk today, I was strolling down North 11th Street when a Woodcock came flying out of a doorway it was apparently hiding in.  I ran down the street after it, it flew south down Kent Ave but I wasn't quick enough to see where it went.  I very nice surprise.

Take care

Chris

Dear Mr. Dorosh,

Here at Green-Wood, the flora is awakening to spring. Wandering Green-Wood's paths, you'll likely encounter yellow narcissus scattered at your feet and buttery magnolia blossoms splashing the understory with colors of pink and white. And our Yoshino cherry blossoms are just around the corner—expect them within a couple weeks.

During these uncertain times, we remind you that Green-Wood is dedicated to remaining a community resource and place of refuge for those seeking solace and fresh air while practicing social distancing. Our Main Entrance, located at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street is open 8am to 7pm daily for those of you wishing to take an outdoor stroll and take in the natural world.

Stay safe and healthy.

Subject: Spring Migration During COVID-19

Dear Members,

In the midst of the COVID-19 public health crisis, I hope that you and your family are well and staying healthy. These are challenging and uncertain times. What I do know is that spring migration season is here and the birds are coming. If allowed by local authorities, you will be outdoors looking for them.

The Brooklyn Bird Club has cancelled all events from now until April 10th. We will reassess the situation in the coming weeks and make a determination regarding our programming going forward. Stay tuned, I will be in touch.

The rules for birding have changed this year. Social distancing is not anti-social behavior. It is a requirement. Please be especially conscious of your proximity to others while birding. It is important that we don't touch or stand too close to one another. Maintain a 6-foot distance. Don't ask to share others' binoculars or scopes and do decline to share if someone should ask. Wash your hands frequently and use disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer. Visit the NYC Department of Health's webpage for the latest information about these and other precautions.

We are a family, please look out for each other. We are a community organization if you need assistance we will help you find it. If you need to talk, if you feel isolated, call me 718-768-0398. I am here to listen.

Yours,

Dear Ms. Eyster,

Our hearts go out to those of you affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). As always, and especially during these difficult times, the health and well-being of our community is of the utmost importance to us. We are closely monitoring the coronavirus situation and taking precautions to slow the spread of this outbreak.

At Green-Wood we are dedicated to to serving the needs of the families who have entrusted the care of their loved ones to us, as well the greater New York community. We recognize the role Green-Wood plays in so many lives, not just as a place of remembrance, but one of solace in an ever-uncertain world. Therefore we are dedicated to stay open and accessible during this time so you may continue to find peace in our landscape—as generations before us have.

We are closely following the safety and preventative protocols offered by the CDC and local public health officials and have taken a series of proactive measures, including implementing enhanced cleaning procedures, to maintain a safe environment for our visitors.
