Of local parks ( well we kinda think Greenwood is a park) the cemetery took high honors for great all round birding. A number of quality birds kept the place cooking today.
Number one honor goes to COMMON REDPOLL. Up to six birds were seen feeding on ground sweet gum seed balls for most of the morning. The hot spot was South wood Ave south of the Union Ave t intersection. along the mostly heavy seed side 4 Redpoll fed including one gorgeous bird with bright red breast. Thanks to some birders who alerted me as I was approaching. Much obliged!
Two American Woodcock hid well but Dennis H leading the BBC walk found them. Both birds camouflaged well in the ground were under conifers one a yew tree the other a Holly- at Sylvan water south flank.
A Rusty Black bird surprised me on Dale Ave east of the Crescent Water. Perched in a young Oak it flew to the opposite hillside for good views. I read later Rusties were seen at Owls Head park and Prospects Vale of Cashmere.
For bonus in the cemetery ,add an Eastern Bluebird.A single bird appeared at Central Ave by the sumac and meadow paths. Feeders I heard had Pine Siskins ( as did Prospects).
Raptors include Bald Eagle likely Rover 7 and flyover Black Vulture.
Chopping and Field Sparrows were reported both I assumes near Dellwater
Not leaving Prospect out of the loop.i found later on continuing quality on the lake..of course it's the long staying Red-Throated Loon and two Hen Common Mergansers .8 Wood Ducks among the many Canada geese had a hard time getting out of the way in Duck Island channel.
In Emily Clarke checklist with photos , more good Prospect birds. Ring necked Ducks likely in upper Pool and Black headed Gull returned to the lake.
And finally, Eurasian Wigeon continues at Bush Terminal pier park as of 807 this morning. I was thinking of going for that bird but I did enough chasing for the day.
