- Comments: "I heard this odd, buzzy drawn out call near Music Island that I hadn't heard before. For what it's worth, Merlin returned varied thrush, which is a species I have no experience with. However, I can't think of any expected species that would make this sound. It's also vagrant season and I heard it in immediately proximity to fruit-bearing bushes (hollies, etc.) where one would expect to see thrushes. I stuck around for about 45 minutes but could not match the call to any other birds in the area that I was seeing (house sparrows, song sparrows, etc.) and I did not hear it again. EDIT: After some initial feedback from the NY Discord and some Xeno Canto research, it sounds good for Varied Thrush."
