The Painted Bunting is likely to stick around this weekend, the weather
looks to be ideal and so, coupled with the extensive news coverage over the
last few days, we are likely to see a sizable crowd over the next few days
as people may be making long treks to catch a sighting of 3PB (Prospect
Park Painted Bunting).
We all ask you to please be mindfull of the planted areas when visiting the
bird and, as responsible members of the birding community, please politely
encourage others to do so as well. The Horticultural Supervisor yesterday
moved everyone off even the wood chip area where people had been moving
into for closer looks. John Jordan, Director of Landscape Management for
the PP Alliance, has asked us all to be extra mindful of the plantings up
on this wonderful green roof habitat and that, besides the plantings
themselves, there are some none too sturdy buried irrigation equipment that
we risk damaging by impacting these areas.
There are plenty of paved pathways offering good viewing vantage points and
the Painted Bunting has been very cooperative in that he doesn't seem to
ever leave the general area in, on and around the green roof on top of the
Lefrak Skating Center.
There are clean bathrooms, a snack bar and the Bluestone Cafe for your
convenience right there at the Lefrak Center to make your trip enjoyable
when you come to enjoy this magnificent little adventurer as well as the
rest of Prospect Park. We have bird feeders set up a short distance away
on Breeze Hill that are starting to attract some bird activity and please
feel free to enjoy the rest of our wonderful urban forest on your visit.
A nice way of saying thanks to the bird and the park would be to become a
member of the Prospect Park Alliance if you feel so inclined. Membership
dues contribute to the maintenance of this heavily traffic urban habitat.

Lefrak Center is best accessed through the entrance at Parkside and Ocean
Avenues. There is street parking in the area and the Q subway stops right
there (Parkside stop.)

Painted Bunting continues south side of Lefrac Center / Lake up higher in trees associating with 7 European Goldfinches.
Enter Prospect Park from Lincoln Street. Drive car inside Park to visitor parking straight in on Breeze Hill or take B or Q to prospect park and walk to Lefrac Center - skating Rink.
Good luck if you travel for it.
