or use the Pinhole camera idea using a box or two stiff pieces of paper with second one for the reflection a darker color you look at the reflection or projection . Your back to the sun !
see my previous posts below for the links of safe methods
Good luck and enjoy this historic moment

Hi Peter,
What a lovely day to search for tiny yellow birds!
I saw a bunch of American Redstarts in 3 different locations and one sizable group of Yellow Warblers. A lonely Northern Waterthrush appeared at Dell Water also.
Looking forward to the eclipse tomorrow.
Prospect morn birds
Thanks much to Anne Murray who I ran into at Butterfly meadow,I was able to Garner 4 species warblers.
Including several birds between Ravine Rocky Pass and Peninsula south shore,we watched a few BLACK WHITE, YELLOW & AMERICAN REDSTARTS.Two NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES also appeared.Though not rare,it's a nice start to fall birding on a warm southerly wind day.
We also spotted an immature BLACK CROWNED NIGHT HERON HERON in Lullwater cove and GREAT BLUE HERON flying to Duck Island. Wood ducks at Lullwater cove and Upper pool plus a perched juvenile TEDTAILED HAWK at North Nethermead fills in a lazy like summer morning.
These days it's great to have those extra sharp eyes.

Hi Peter,
I saw a female black throated blue warbler (white handkerchief) in
Prospect Park yesterday evening, August 19 around 6:30pm.
(I also saw three night heron, at first I thought they were juvenile
yellow crowned, but might have been black crowned.)
All the best,
Lenny Goldstein

Safe Solar eclipse viewing
Warning Don't look direct at sun. This is one safe but dramatic way viewing the eclipse using binoculars inverted. Cut out lens holes using a marker to outline size. .NOTE Your back to the sun.
245 eastern standard time. 245 pm halfway mark. (Starts 120 ,ends by 4 pm)
Safe methods for viewing solar eclipse
NYC will have a PARTIAL Eclipse. Two safe ways not directly looking at sun with your back towards sun:
A pinhole camera with cardboard with a center pen point size puncture and a dark stiff paper / cardboard behind the pinhole.
Or
Take your binoculars and invert with cardboard shield over one lens (front) onto a dark or light stiff paper or cardboard. Shield acts as a light block. But first cutout a stiff cardboard that fits over the front lens of the binoculars.your shield.
See this link for pics and BE SAFE! SUN Can blind you!
http://www.mreclipse.com/Totality2/TotalityCh11.html
Hope for clear skies at peak viewing 2:45 peak halfways mark.(120 starts ,before 4pm end)

Incoming warblers
Eni Falci came along awhile I was working at the Lily Pool section. She reported a few warblers this afternoon.
First a BLUEWINGED WARBLER was sighted at the west end of Boulder Bridge by some Hornbeams. Then a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH in the bridle Path rain puddle at Ricks Place.
And at Binnen Run just south of the Nethermead Bridge, feeding at Cardinal Flowers , a YELLOW WARBLER appeared.
Gus Keri reported five hours ago a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH at Binnen Bridge.
So, a little action in fits and starts.
