There is currently a Red-necked Grebe just off the SW corner of Pier 6. Happy Sunday.

From 11 am to 2 pm I birded the 69th St (Veterans Memorial) pier in Bay Ridge, the 58th St (Brooklyn Army Terminal) pier and for the first time the new Bush Terminal Park. All 3 locations were very windy, with Bush Terminal Park the most productive. The continuing glaucous gull was congregating with herring gulls on the pier with concrete bulkheads opposite the accessible pier; you need a scope to see it. Other notable birds at BAT were a red necked grebe coming into breeding plumage, 3 killdeer and a merlin that made 2 overhead passes while I was there. List follows.

greater and lesser scaup (69th)
bufflehead (69th, 58th, BAT)
red breasted merganser (69th, 58th, BAT)
herring gull (69th, BAT)
ring billed gull (69th, 58th, BAT)
grater black backed gull (BAT)
glaucous gull (BAT)
mallard (69th, BAT)
black duck (69th, BAT)
ruddy duck (69th, 58th)
gadwall (BAT)
red necked grebe (BAT)
killdear (BAT)
double crested cormorant (58th)
merlin (BAT)
Northern cardinal (69th, heard)
Northern mockingbird (BAT)
house sparrow (BAT)
