As winter creeps in,we best head for the water parks and coastal regions. Because if you are a "Gulliphile" ( I honestly don't know where that term comes from!) that's where you'll go look for gulls.
One of the good reliable spots in our area on northwest Brooklyn is Bush Terminal Pier Park . This young park presents good opportunities for a rare gull now and then. You just have to get lucky.
Today Tom Preston reported an immature ICELAND GULL there. Not far to the south is Veterans pier on 65th street where there a sewage treatment plant and pier 4 at Army Terminal, all excellent spots for "gulling" .
If you want to go farther,Gravesend Bay along the Belt Parkway is gull heaven; an example: this past week a BLACK HEADED GULL was reported.
It should be a fun winter!
