Today's GBBC counts ,a trek along the western locations, PIER 4 at 58th street and Red Hook came up with two rarities REDNECKED GREBE which drifted farther away westward 500 feet from the pier and ICELAND GULL( 1st cycle). The Grebe was at pier 4,spotted very close to the Sea streak Ferry barge dock; the gull on the jetty at the end of the pier that moors the waterfront museum barge, at Conover street where Fairway is located. ( great Crab Shack restaurant there on Reed Street).
The 1st cycle Iceland Gull seen on the jetty took off about 5 minutes after my spot ; me and Mary Eyster watched it over the water ,its scalloping whitish wings distinguished, in front of Governors Island in the backdrop, then it disappeared toward Coffey Street pier direction..A good one and appropriate for this snowy gorgeous day.
