Bad news regarding an insect pest

Well ... they're here.

The dreaded SPOTTED LANTERNFLY was reported today in Greenwood Cemetery Dellwater area with multiples observed and squashed by a few friends. ( Yes..if u see them, kill it). GWC staff cut down the host tree Ailanthus but saplings left behind were attracting these bad bugs.

And today, singles were found by staff workers in Prospect Park. The insect preys and damages a number of tree species ( like our native Maples for one)

If you see them ( squash it)  ,send an email to Prospect Park Alliance. If u have my cell # or email address ,let me know. Make sure it's a lanternfly. ( And not any butterfly)

We are particularly interested in finding the eggs ( seen as a black mass ) on a tree, usually at the base.

Here's a link below from the NYSDEC about Spotted Lanternflys . Please keep your eyes open.
