Sparrows arrive

A very good infusion of sparrows finally commenced, descending into Prospect and also a report from Mary Eyster's patch of woods in Sunset Park.

While I had to work , nevertheless I was working independently and chose West Woods as my work area, planting and mulching the new trees. I could see much bird activity ,mostly along the lawn edhes with marginal weeds and grasses full of sparrows, PALM WARBLERS and a few other dominant species.I had expected and hope for West Wood, the north  Picnic House area enclosure become a sparrow haven. It did today.

The sparrows I saw during my "coffee break " ;) were FIELD,SWAMP,WHITE THROATED,SONG,CHIPPING, EASTERN TOWHEE, DARK EYED JUNCO. An INDIGO BUNTING was with the FIELD SPARROW in one of the donor tree  fenced by a mesh , seen well from the north fence or new road.

PALM WARBLERS are dominant here at West Wood today and so were in the ballfields. That's another post later. My work day has ended.

Sunset Park , meanwhile did very well according to Mary Eyster, her neck of the woods. The highlight was a CLAY COLORED SPARROW among 7 species sparrows and 27 species birds for that sparsely wood and understory park. Even a pair of PURPLE FINCHES was worthy with the bright male present

If its a park, birds will rest in it and find the cover. Also Greenwood Cemetery according to Mary had over 100 PALM WARBLERS. They are everywhere....

more later...
