From Ryan
Just up from the dog beach, by Fallkill Falls, things were quite busy. I got positive ID on at least (8) White-winged crossbills, but there could have been as many as (20) given the frenetic activity. AMGO & BCCH were mixed in. A Winter Wren and Brown Creeper were nearby. The birds foraged in several trees (preferring the Sweetgums between Upper/Lower Pools). Notably, a few were on the ground within just a few feet of the path, making for very close views - a major plus as the lighting (when looking up) was very poor on this dreary day. After several minutes the mixed flock erupted and headed toward the Ravine/Midwood, where I could not relocate them.
Cheers,
Ryan
