In Memoriam Lenore Swenson

A prominent Linnanean Society and Brooklyn Bird Club member,Lenore was a special person and a very kind birder who was an excellent observer in the field. She helped tremendously on many bird club walks and especially the overnight trips.

She also was a important part of the NYC Butterfly club.

Happy 90th Birthday to Ron Bourque!

Ron in the middle next to me on his left and Rob Bate to my left ( both of us former BBC presidents) during a dedication ceremony .

Celebrating his 90th, legendary Brooklyn birder Ron Bourque's Birthday is today. 

Ron was my first Brooklyn bird club walk leader ( to High Tor State Park) back around 1978 so it's a grand milestone for him today.

An icon and conservationist  around Floyd Bennett Field and Marine Park, he and his wife Jean were editors if the BBC Clapper Rail newsletter back in the 60s thru 70s.

- Comments: "Flagged—a difficult to detect migrant, and maybe getting toward the later side. As I was pishing for the Wilson's Warbler to come out for a photo, this guy popped out right above me. All hell underneath except for grey head and black bib and the tail feathers. Seen through bins at close range, but when I reached for my camera I only managed one terrible, dark, out-of-focus photo. Still, I think it's at least suggestive of everything I just said. It wasn't really singing so others should please send recordings to Jay Pitocchelli if they've got 'em."

- Comments: "One of several in the park this morning, this one in the Butterfly Meadow. Silent but perched uncharacteristically visibly when I arrived: yellow below, gray head, darker bib. Disappeared into the grasses and stayed silent for a long time, doing a circuit that took it back to base of original tree. Stayed in deep cover, but started singing persistently. Recording to be added."
