New Years Day rarity revelry

On this first day of the year, birders despite the gloomy wet weather celebrated seeing rarities. Most were carryover 2021 birds but it's nice to get a head start into'22.

Starting with Prospect, count the lingering Dickcissel and Pine Warbler for the new year. Find those birds at Prospects feeders. There was a report - of many- the Dickcissel was briefly seen at the Lefrak rink on a pedestrian path in the morning. A continuing Rusty Blackbird at the Vale Cashmere pool adds to today's rare sightings.

In neighboring Greenwood Cemetery Crescent Water, the unseasonably Eastern Phoebe hangs out still.

Due west to Bush Terminal park, another gull gets some attention. On the old relic pier , one Lesser black backed Gull favored that spot.

As January begins anew , it'll get better with new things to look forward to.

Happy New Year! 🎇
