Grackles on the move

Yesterday a sizable flock showed up at a friends fire escape feeder in the latest moment around here.

Janet reported at least 200 common grackles coming to her feeders along prospect park southwest ave. That kind of number can clean out feeders real quick.

On my early afternoon visit to the prospect feeders I found a much smaller number thank goodness. Only eleven was my count. But for the serendipitous moment, two other black bird species were present: Red winged and brown headed cowbird. And that winter moment made it worthy to think about.

On the lake,4 hooded Mergansers is gold to me; adding a pair of wood ducks makes it a silver moment. Both were at three sisters islands and Peninsula shoreline respectively. In winter you take and enjoy what you are given.
