Fwd: eBird Report - Prospect Park, Aug 29, 2014

A good flight of birds following on the tail of the north wind bought out the birders.Though not epic, good birds and warbler sightings with some flycatchers made a day an enjoyable one in Prospect

The hi lights of the good morning were a sitting COMMON NIGHTHAWK in a tall cherry tree in the northern Lookout Hill section, BLACK BILLED CUCKOO,PHILADELPHIA VIREO, Hummingbirds, and at least 15 species warblers.Flycatchers include GREAT CRESTED,EASTERN WOOD PEWEE,OLIVE SIDED ( on Lookout hill,Dennis H,Mike Y,also Joshua ),LEAST and YELLOW BELLIED ( Dennis and Mike Yuan).

I had my best shot in free time available during a work day. Most impressionable was two RUBY THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS feeding on Cardinal Flowers in the Ambergill ,a treat watching a tandem of hummers chase each other and perching ,but more " illuminating" the gorgeous backlight hi lighting the very rapid wingbeats.

The following credits for the sightings: NIGHTHAWK spotted by Dennis Hrehowsik with Mike Yuan; BLACK BILLED Cuckoo spotted by Wada at Breeze Hill,PHILADELPHIA VIREO at Binnen Bridge by Chris Elliot.Joshua ( see his list prev post) seeing TENNESSEE & WORMEATING WARBLERS as well as RED BREASTED NUTHATCH.

It should continue decent birding tomorrow especially if winds shift a bit, halting migration for restful night in the park
