VARIED THRUSH is now staying true lately to the Ambergill Pool area as reported today by Kathy Toomey; so it has me thinking : does this bird have two different Prospect homes ? A winter residence and a summer residence ? Makes one dizzy.....
PM report
During my post work walk , a cool thing in the Ravine. A small flock of 8 GOLDEN CROWNED KINGLETS worked upstream towards the Little Rock Arch bridge. A few of the kinglets showed of their bright head spots, some brilliant red within the yellow spot. A dd to that a BROWN CREEPER I spotted while watching the kinglets, both terrific birds to enjoy.
Along the Lullwater, 9 EASTERN PHOEBES were counted, so it looks like they are the showoff species today bereft of warblers. Well, I did see one warbler,a YELLOW RUMPED in the Lullwater by the Terrace Bridge. Multiple crossings over the Lullwater doesn't fazed these birds. ( they have wings).
By the Lullwater Cove, I was alerted to an AMERICAN KESTREL that perched in the tall oak . I was beneath the falcon, but was able to make out the male species.
In the Lake, the best species are 4 RINGNECKED DUCKS by West Island and several RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS. Alan Welz reported a single BRANT among Canada Geese around 110 this afternoon. But a late report from Bobbi counted COMMON MERGANSER as top bird
Bobbi birded today and hit the jackpot with woodpeckers: she got all five that can be possibly seen this time of year.

Hi Peter,A good day while waiting for new things to blow in. Got all 5 woodpeckers, first time this year. Started with a flicker on the Peninsula while chatting with Kathy and Emily. Who would have guessed red-bellied would be the challenge to complete the sweep? For Phoebes, 30 is a low-ball estimate. Finally, today was the first time i had more than a single golden-crowned kinglet, 10 at least.Best,Bobbi---- Forwarded Message ----- From: "do-not-reply@ebird.org" <do-not-reply@ebird.org> Sent: Tuesday, April 2, 2013 4:58 PM Subject: eBird Report - Prospect Park, Apr 2, 2013Prospect Park, Kings, US-NY Apr 2, 2013 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM Protocol: Traveling 4.0 mile(s) 50 species (+1 other taxa) Brant 1 Canada Goose 30 Mute Swan 6 American Black Duck 4 Mallard 20 American Black Duck x Mallard (hybrid) 1 Northern Shoveler 20 Ring-necked Duck 4 Common Merganser 1 same female always seen by West Island Red-breasted Merganser 4 Ruddy Duck 40 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Great Egret 1 Black-crowned Night-Heron 1 Osprey 1 Red-tailed Hawk 3 American Coot 20 Ring-billed Gull 60 Herring Gull 20 Rock Pigeon 12 Mourning Dove 12 Red-bellied Woodpecker 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 1 Downy Woodpecker 5 Hairy Woodpecker 2 Northern Flicker 1 Merlin 1 Eastern Phoebe 30 Blue Jay 12 American Crow 1 Tree Swallow 25 Black-capped Chickadee 12 Tufted Titmouse 3 Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 Brown Creeper 1 Golden-crowned Kinglet 10 American Robin 20 European Starling 30 Yellow-rumped Warbler 1 American Tree Sparrow 2 Fox Sparrow 1 Song Sparrow 12 White-throated Sparrow 8 Dark-eyed Junco 4 Northern Cardinal 12 Red-winged Blackbird 20 Common Grackle 25 Brown-headed Cowbird 3 House Finch 1 Pine Siskin 2 House Sparrow 8
