Peter-
Dennis and I had little early this morning from the Pools through the Midwood to the Lullwater. At the Maryland Monument, we heard a Great-Crested Flycatcher call from atop Lookout. Dennis had to leave and go to work, but I hadn't yet seen one this year so I went up to find it.
Near the top of the Maryland Monument stairs, I heard a Yellow-throated Warbler sing. Found it in an oak with a distracting Red-breasted Nuthatch. Ryan Bass arrived shortly after. Although we viewed it through terrible light and neck-cramping angles, it kept singing and staying in view.
Having seen a Pine Warbler just before, the YTWA was my 2nd and last warbler of the morning. I'll take it.
-Mike

BBC Tuesday walk led by Rob Bate
list courtesy of Bobbi Manian
Hi Peter,
12 optimistic souls spent 4 hours scouring the park for 39 species of birds. Slow day but here are some highlights (good and bad):
1) crazy hatch out of some kind on top of Lookout had more than 50 Chimney Swifts swooping around at eye level. Great views, we watched for over 10 minutes.
2) Two male Orchard Orioles by Music Pagoda also gave us some nice looks
3) only THREE warbler species (yellow, B&W, yellow-rump) :-(
Here are some pics from today's walk (1st four in album are today, rest is previous weeks).
Thanks as always to Rob for finding us whatever birds are left in the park!!
b.
p.s. Ann and I continued for another 2 hours (Penna, Midwood and Vale) netting Great-Blue Heron, Goldfinch, Hairy WP and Wood Thrush. I also had a Mockingbird on my way out. Whoo hoo!
