Both the YELLOW THROATED and PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS continue their stay today --good news for birders. Plus there are a few sparrows to add to the day's list.
The YELLOW THROATED WARBLER continues its presence as usual at the Lower Pool back gate with some short traveling towards the Upper Pool back shoreline. Where a large oak timber is in the water, the bird frequents this area. But I was told it ventures to the Upper Pool back shore where next to a fence is a broken snag. This is where the bird comes down to the water.
Meanwhile the PROTHONOTARY WARBLER is delighting birders at the Lullwater Bridge by the Boathouse. A good number of birders were entertained by the golden bird. If you don't see it there, look along the Boathouse pond towards Binnen Falls, even Lily Pool .
For pursuit of a good sparrow, there was a report of a VESPER SPARROW at Field #5 , The report supposedly came from some visiting Long Island birders. Nearby at the Mound opposite field 7 a flock of CHIPPING SPARROWS are present. I found a single SAVANNAH SPARROW just north of the Rink War Memorial, on the lawn edge opposite Music Island.
Lower Pool back gate and the enjoining fence line is still a hot go to spot. Here SWAMP SPARROW and BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER are birding gems.
