Quick summary for today

The highlight today of course was the super rare ( for PP) hen Surf Scoter. An explorer with more personality, the usually seafaring duck swam all over prospect lake. From the rink to the west shore, at times it came very close, as it did for me at Peninsula thumb near noon.

The search for the surf scoter caused sort of a mini Patagonia effect; this means other good birds were found with more eyes around. For example: Rusty Black bird on the mainland shore east of Three Sisters Islands; a clay colored sparrow on the Hammerhead of southwest Lake; even a late Northern Water thrush was found closer towards West Island and later opposite Duck Island.

In the Peninsula cove, Wood Ducks were having a party. At least 8 all told having courtship fun.
