- Comments: "Rare, nemesis vanquished!! first noticed a pale grayish bird very high in a tree in the midwood with no yellow on its front and an obvious black throat, ruling out most of the usual warblers. as is the nature of these things, my camera lens was in the shop so i had to rely on just my eyes. my mind immediately went to golden winged warbler, but as i continued waiting to see its wings and cap i noticed it had striped flanks and no marks on the belly, ruling out chickadee and golden winged. i got just a quick look at the face pattern and despite the distance thought it was certainly suggestive - golden wing-like with hints of pale in front of the eyes. got the word out to brooklyn birders with caution because i don't have any experience with this species (it was my nemesis, after all). thankfully linda refound it, still high and uncooperative but i got a look at its white outer tail feathers and a better look at the signature face pattern. bird did not vocalize. got a few suggestive photos with my crappy backup kit lens but hoping someone else can get better ones."
