Small parks get today's glory and a stunner

Sunday does not belong to either Prospect Park nor Greenwood Cemetery. Today the glory, including a stunning  first time report for Kings county- belongs to small parks in Northern Brooklyn.

We start off of a dramatic find in Fort Greene Park - the park of my youth (or yoot in Brooklynese)- of Pileated Woodpecker. Good birder Brad Vatrt takes the honor of finding this species at the Willouby Ave park entrance , spotted high in a Tulip tree on the eastern section.  It's great to see historic
Ft Greene - a "small park"- get first honors. Congrats to Brad!

As small parks go,Sunset Park is almost the same size as Fort Greene and very similar for its rising slope topography. It also doesn't have much ground habitat; nevertheless a Kentucky Warbler was found by park loyalist Nick Dawson who spotted the bird at the west side restroom building surrounded by shrubbery.

And last for this Sunday fantastic rarity day, we go eastwards to Highland Park which is Ridgewoods Reservoir's neighbor. Here a Red headed Woodpecker was discovered at the parks western boundary.

In all, yay for small patches and parks! ( And birders who bird them patiently plus getting rewarded)
