Prospect Park saw its first Bonapartes Gull in 8 1/2 years ( November 2016) .Unfortunately it didn't end well for it mid-afternoon.
First reported swimming near Music Island this morning, the Bony moved to the western shore at the "begging beach" of Prospect Lake as reported 251 pm where it moved ashore . About 30 minutes , a birding tweet said a Red tailed Hawk snatched it . Hence it wound up in the belly of the beast.
Some talk mentioned the Bony might not have been well due to abnormal observation of its left eye. Nevertheless it appeared to have been in a weakened state making it vulnerable. That's how nature deals with the weakest allowing predators to clean up sickened animals.
Well at least some birders got lucky..
